This land doesn’t ask to be conquered — only noticed. The trails around Under The Ledge aren’t attractions; they’re quiet routes through a living, breathing landscape. Some lead to forgotten villages, others to summits with no names. You’ll pass creeks, centuries-old trees, high pastures, and places where stories linger without signs.
Whether you climb, wander, or simply sit still beneath the cliffs, this is not the kind of adventure that rushes. It’s one that stays with you.
This hike begins at the edge of the village and leads you deep into forested terrain, through creeks, ancient beech trees, and up toward alpine pastures once used by seasonal shepherds. The silence is broken only by birdsong and the rustle of old leaves.
As you climb higher, the forest gives way to vast open meadows filled with wildflowers, a few remaining shepherd huts, and crystal-clear water. Reaching the tree line reveals a 360-degree panorama of peaks that stretch across Albania and into Montenegro.
For those with more energy, the trail can be extended to a trailless ascent to a summit overlooking the entire region — a 3D map of wild ridgelines, valleys, and the far reach of human memory.

To the Top of the Waterfall
Climbing to the top of Albania’s tallest waterfall is a bold and breathtaking adventure. The trail begins with a steep ascent, winding up goat paths through rock and pine forest. From there, hikers face a diagonal slope, a small cliff wall, and a final push through dense forest to reach the summit.
At the top, water bursts from a cave and plunges downward in a roaring fall. Metal hooks left by professional climbers mark the rock — silent witnesses to those who’ve made the climb before. From this perch, the southern view is vast and surreal, giving you the sensation of standing on the roof of a lost world.
This route is only for those with experience or with a trusted guide. It's challenging, but unforgettable.

Village
Mregu Village & The Axe (Maja e Lerthit)
The path to Mregu leads through beech forests and past old huts now crumbling into the hillside. Along switchbacks, the landscape changes with every turn — tree species, scents, and views shift, until you arrive at the meadows of one of the most remote villages in Albania.
This village sits at alpine levels, without road access, and in winter, it's cut off entirely by snow. Stone houses and hay terraces give it a timeless feel, with herds of sheep roaming freely in the fields.
For those willing to go further, the summit hike to Maja e Lerthit, known locally as The Axe, is a steep, wild ascent. The final ridge offers an adrenaline-pumping path to the top, where Albania meets Montenegro at a silent concrete border marker. The view is dramatic — mountain after mountain fading into the sky.

Mountain
Kristior Mountain Ridge Traverse
Kristior, often called “the mountain of wild goats,” is one of the most rugged and visually stunning hikes in the region. The trail begins near the camp and climbs through forest before opening up onto a dramatic ledge that hangs over the valley.
As you gain elevation, the land flattens into high pastures and then rises again — this time along a ridgeline once used by Yugoslav border patrols. The views are continuous, the air thin and clear. On one side, a vertical north face; on the other, steep meadows sloping into the abyss.
The ridge walk is both mentally and physically challenging — constantly gaining and losing altitude — but offers a reward like no other: a true sense of wilderness.

~ 8-9 hours

Moderate to Difficult
Elevation Gain:
~ 1300 meters

WHEN LESS IS ENOUGH
The Thin Escape
Some journeys don’t require trails. At Under The Ledge, many guests come not to climb or hike, but simply to think, rest, or create. Whether you're reading a book beneath the trees, sketching in a notebook, or sorting out thoughts in the quiet, this place gives you the space to do so. Here, inspiration often comes uninvited — in the curve of a tree branch, the hush of wind, or the way light falls across the old stone terraces. You don’t need an itinerary to find something meaningful.
For experienced climbers, the cliffs and gorges surrounding the waterfall are full of potential. The rock wall alongside the waterfall has hosted climbs by professionals, while the gorge carved by its waters hides a labyrinth of narrow passages, arches, and plunge pools.
